Venus Retrograde Shows Where You Betrayed Yourself for Love

Venus retrograde from October 3 to November 13, 2026 — Venus has been slowing down in her shadow zone since August 31, and on Saturday, October 3 at 3:15 a.m. ET she stops at 8°29' Scorpio and starts moving backward. If some slightly awkward love memories are popping up right now (the “yes” you wish had been a “no,” the plans you canceled for them), that's no accident: the sorting has begun. Next date to circle: Friday, October 23 at 11:44 p.m. ET, when the Sun meets Venus and everything suddenly gets very clear.

Have you ever looked at yourself in a relationship and barely recognized the person staring back? Venus retrograde is the perfect time to answer that question without beating yourself up. For six weeks, the planet of love moves backward and brings up the places where you betrayed yourself for love: needs you swallowed, boundaries you let slide, values you shelved, the way you shrank to be easier to love. Here's how to spot them, sign by sign, and how to repair them.

In Europe, the direct station falls on November 14, because 7:27 p.m. in New York is already the next day in Paris. Here we focus on one thing only: what this backward walk shows you about the way you forget yourself when you love.

Venus Retrograde and Self-Betrayal in Love: What the Mirror Shows You 🪞

When people talk about betrayal in love, they think of the other person right away: the lie, the cheating, the broken promise. But the most common betrayal, and the quietest, is the one we inflict on ourselves. It doesn't make a scene. It looks like kindness, like flexibility, even like love. And that is exactly why it goes unnoticed for months, sometimes years.

In astrology, Venus rules what you love, but also what you're worth in your own eyes. She is the planet of connection and value: what you're willing to give, what you agree to receive, the price you put on your presence. For the basics of her role in a chart, our guide to Venus in astrology has you covered. When she moves forward, she pulls you toward others. When she moves backward, she brings you back to yourself. That's the whole difference.

A retrograde planet doesn't actually reverse in the sky: seen from Earth, it only seems to retrace its steps. In astrology, that apparent motion reads as an invitation to revisit, reread and reassess. For the general principle, our article on retrograde planets explains it all. Applied to Venus, that means forty-one days during which your love stories, past and present, replay before your eyes. And in that rerun, there are scenes where you weren't quite yourself.

Self-betrayal in love almost always takes one of these four forms. You'll probably recognize yourself in at least one of them (and if you recognize yourself in all four, welcome to the club, it's very crowded in here).

The formHow to recognize itWhat Venus retrograde brings up
Swallowed needsYou say “it's fine,” “whatever you want,” “I'm easy,” when it isn't true. The exhaustion of never being the one who asks. A resentment that surprises you with its force.
Crossed boundariesYou accept a tone, a delay, a comment you would never accept from anyone else.Precise, dated memories, with the physical sensation of the moment you let it slide.
Sacrificed valuesYou gave up a project, a friendship, a conviction, because your partner wasn't on board.Nostalgia for a version of you that felt more whole, freer, more consistent.
The shrunken selfYou speak more softly, laugh less, take up less space. You made yourself small to be loved. The shock of seeing an old photo or rereading an old journal, and finding someone you'd lost track of: you.

Why is all this coming up now? Because Venus retreats through two signs that talk about exactly this. In Scorpio, where tradition places her in detriment, she feels ill at ease: it's the sign of merging, power and what we bury. In Libra, where she rules, she asks about the balance between giving and receiving, and about the need to please. In other words, the fall 2026 retrograde digs through your depths first, then through your arrangements. Two perfect places to catch self-betrayal red-handed.

And no, this is not about putting yourself on trial. You betrayed yourself for love because you loved, because you were afraid of losing someone, because somewhere along the way you learned that love has to be earned through concessions. The question Venus retrograde asks isn't “what did you do wrong?” but “what would you like to get back?”

October 3 to 25, Venus in Scorpio: Buried Sacrifices Resurface ♏

The first phase of the retrograde plays out in Scorpio, from Saturday, October 3 to Sunday, October 25. It's the most intense phase, and for many people the most uncomfortable. Scorpio doesn't do halfway: it goes looking for what's hidden, what's shameful, what you decided to stop looking at. With Venus in detriment in this sign, love takes on the slightly bitter taste of truth.

In practice, these three weeks bring up the oldest and deepest self-betrayals. The ones that touch intimacy, the body, trust, shared money and power in the relationship. You might find yourself thinking about the relationship where you chose to be jealous in silence rather than say what hurt. About the moment you gave in on something important, just so you wouldn't lose them. About the time you let someone decide for you what was good for you.

Scorpio has another talent: it exposes power dynamics. Who decides, who gives in, who always apologizes first? If you're always the one who comes back after a fight, even when you had nothing to apologize for, this phase will make you notice. Not to crush you, but so you can stop confusing love with surrender.

On Friday, October 23 at 11:44 p.m. ET, the Sun meets Venus. This is the inferior conjunction, the exact heart of the cycle. Symbolically, it's when the lights come on: what was blurry becomes sharp. Many people experience some kind of click around this date, sometimes gentle, sometimes abrupt. A sentence you read, a dream, a talk with a friend, and suddenly you understand why you're so tired of your current story, or why you can't close the book on the last one.

A few hours later, on Saturday, October 24 at 3:12 a.m. ET, Mercury turns retrograde too, also in Scorpio. The two planets will move backward together for almost three weeks. For our topic, that's a gift: Mercury rules speech, messages and the thoughts we put into words. If Venus shows you where you betrayed yourself, Mercury helps you name it. To understand how this planet works, see our guide to Mercury in astrology. One warning, though: the words that surface during this window need time to ripen before you hit send. Write everything, send very little.

Finally, the Scorpio phase echoes the 8th house of the natural zodiac, the house of intimacy, shared resources and transformation. If you're wondering what this sector represents, our article on the 8th house in astrology breaks it down. It's often where the hardest self-betrayals to admit are hiding: the money you lent and don't dare ask back for, the desire you silenced, the intimacy you went along with to please rather than because you wanted it.

The right move in this phase isn't to fix everything. It's to look without looking away. Write down what comes up. Don't search for solutions yet. Scorpio first asks you to acknowledge the wound, and only then to tend to it.

October 25 to November 13, Venus in Libra: The Price of Peace at Any Cost ♎

On Sunday, October 25, Venus backs out of Scorpio into Libra. The mood changes completely. Goodbye to the depths, hello to the living room: Libra is the sign of partnership, agreements, harmony and beauty. Venus rules this sign and feels at ease here. But that ease has a flip side, and that's what the retrograde will light up.

Libra loves peace. It loves it so much that it's sometimes willing to do anything to keep it, including abandoning itself. It's the sign of the polite “yes” hiding an honest “no,” of the compromise that slowly turns into self-erasure, of the need to please overtaking the need to be yourself. During this second phase, the self-betrayals that surface are less dramatic but more everyday. Fewer big wounds, more small arrangements that, added up, have pulled you away from yourself.

You might realize, for instance, that you always pick the restaurant they like, the movie they prefer, the vacation that suits them. That you've adopted their tastes, their vocabulary, their political opinions, without really noticing. That you stopped seeing certain friends because your partner didn't like them. None of these concessions is serious on its own. Together, they sketch a person who adapted until they partly disappeared.

Libra also echoes the 7th house of the natural zodiac, the house of partners and commitment. Our guide to the 7th house in astrology explains how this sector describes what you look for in another person. During the Libra phase, the question becomes: is this relationship a balanced partnership, or am I giving far more than I receive? Grab a sheet of paper, draw two columns and be honest. (Yes, even if it stings.)

Mercury stays retrograde in Scorpio throughout this phase, until Friday, November 13 at 10:53 a.m. ET. That creates an interesting tension: Venus talks diplomacy, while Mercury pushes you to go deep. It's the ideal time to prepare an important conversation, as long as you don't rush it. Once Mercury turns direct and Venus follows the same evening, at 7:27 p.m. ET, the conditions are right to say what you've understood. And if you're wondering whether to reach out to an old flame during these weeks, our article on whether to text your ex during Venus retrograde will help you think it through.

The right move in this phase: rebalance the scales, one small weight at a time. No revolution. Just one preference expressed per day, one choice made for yourself, one desire owned without justifying it. Libra loves fine adjustments. You don't need to turn everything upside down to find your place again.

Venus Retrograde Sign by Sign: Where You Betrayed Yourself for Love 🔮

Depending on your Sun sign, Venus moves through two different areas of your chart during the retrograde: first the one that corresponds to Scorpio, then the one that corresponds to Libra. That handover from one house to the next, around October 25, shows where your self-betrayal lives and how you can repair it. To understand how these sectors work, our article on the astrological houses is a good starting point. And if you know your rising sign, read that sign's section too: it often hits closest to home.

♈ Aries: What You Gave Up in the Merging

Venus first retreats through your 8th house, the house of intimacy, desire and shared resources, before moving into your 7th house, the house of partnership. You, the sign that charges ahead, decides fast and never asks anyone's permission? Yes, you. Because in love, Aries has a secret weakness: when you truly fall, you throw yourself into merging with the same fire you bring to everything else, and sometimes you lose a few feathers along the way.

The Scorpio phase (October 3 to 25) may remind you of times you accepted a rhythm, an intimate life or a way of handling joint money that didn't feel like you, just to keep the intensity alive. You hate seeing yourself in a weak position, so you may have dressed those concessions up as choices. The Libra phase (October 25 to November 13) then shifts the question to the relationship itself: who's leading the dance, and do you still enjoy it?

What shifts: unusual impatience with your partner, or on the contrary a wish to meet them more honestly. If you're single, an ex could get in touch, especially around October 23. Before you answer, ask yourself what you were sweeping under the rug back then.

Your advice: before every important “yes” between now and November 13, wait one full night. Aries says yes on impulse; that delay gives you time to check that the impulse is really yours. To understand what you truly need from a partner, revisit your Aries love compatibility.

♉ Taurus: The Yeses That Cost You Dearly

Venus is your ruling planet, and when she moves backward you feel it in your body, not just your head. She crosses your 7th house, the house of partners, then your 6th house, the house of daily life, habits and health. You're the sign of loyalty and stability. Beautiful qualities. With one flaw: you sometimes stay in a situation out of comfort long after it stopped feeding you.

During the Scorpio phase, your relationship itself steps into the spotlight. How many times did you say “yes” to avoid conflict, to keep the balance, to keep the peace at home? Taurus hates change, and sometimes prefers a lukewarm but predictable relationship over the unknown of a real conversation. What you tolerate out of loyalty may look very different around October 23.

The Libra phase brings you back down to earth: who does the shopping, who handles the appointments, who sacrifices sleep, free time, health? You may have taken on the role of the rock that nobody asked for and nobody notices anymore. Your body, however, has kept score: a stiff neck, fatigue, sugar cravings (yes, we know you).

Your advice: every week of the retrograde, hand back one task you were doing out of habit rather than desire. Just one. Watch the reaction, and above all your own. Your Taurus portrait will remind you why it's so hard for you to let go of what feels safe.

♊ Gemini: Being Useful Instead of Having Fun

Venus retreats through your 6th house, the house of daily routines, work and service, before reaching your 5th house, the house of romance, play and creativity. For you, dear Gemini, self-betrayal in love wears an unexpected face: usefulness. You're light, funny, curious. But when you love someone, you tend to make yourself indispensable, managing, organizing, fixing, to the point of forgetting to have fun.

The Scorpio phase confronts you with that drift: have you turned into your partner's personal assistant? Do you answer their texts in three seconds, even in the middle of a meeting? Did you give up your own projects to help with theirs? Gemini loves to feel useful, but by being useful all the time, you lose what makes you charming: your freedom of movement.

From October 25, the Libra phase brings you back to pleasure, and that's where it all clicks. Remember what it was like to flirt just for the fun of it? To laugh at nothing? To write, draw, dance? What you sacrificed isn't some grand moral value, it's your joy. And that's already a lot.

Your advice: for these six weeks, set aside two evenings a week for something that serves no purpose except making you happy. No productivity, no mission, just play. To see where your love life is headed next year, check your Gemini yearly horoscope.

♋ Cancer: Giving Everything to Keep the Peace at Home

Venus retreats through your 5th house, the house of romance and a racing heart, then your 4th house, the house of home, family and roots. You already know it, sweet Cancer: you're the all-around champion of self-giving. You care, you anticipate, you comfort. The problem is that you often forget to care for the one doing all the caring: you.

The Scorpio phase takes you back to your love stories, present or past. You might think again about the relationship where you loved one-sidedly, hoping your devotion would eventually be returned. Or the moments when you smothered a strong emotion (anger, sadness, jealousy) so as not to bother anyone. Cancer has a formidable emotional memory: everything you kept quiet is still there, neatly stored in a corner.

The Libra phase walks you into the house, literally and figuratively. That's often where your biggest self-betrayal is hiding: accepting a home that doesn't reflect you, a family setup that drains you, in-laws who take over, out of fear of losing the nest. You built a nest for everyone else. It's time to find your own spot in it.

Your advice: every evening, before you take care of anyone else, ask yourself “what do I need, right now?” and give it to yourself. Even if it's ten minutes of silence. Your Cancer love compatibility will help you spot the partners who know how to give back what you give.

♌ Leo: Dimming Your Light So Others Can Shine

Venus retreats through your 4th house, the house of home and private life, before moving into your 3rd house, the house of conversation, words and messages. You, majestic Leo, betraying yourself for love? Sounds impossible. And yet. Under that glorious mane hides a deep fear: that you won't be loved if you take up too much room. So sometimes, you turn the volume down.

During the Scorpio phase, things come up behind closed doors. At home, away from the crowd, did you accept being the supporting act? Did you put your ambitions on hold so as not to outshine your partner? Leo has a huge heart and sometimes steps aside out of generosity. But a Leo who stops shining eventually goes dark, and that's good for no one.

The Libra phase moves the topic to speech. What have you stopped saying? What compliments are you waiting for and never ask for? Which hurtful remarks did you laugh off? Leo's pride often keeps you from admitting you were hurt. Mercury retrograde, running at the same time, could bring back an old message or an unfinished conversation.

Your advice: every day, share one success or one thing you're proud of with your partner or someone close, however small, without downplaying it. You have the right to shine without apologizing. Your Leo portrait will remind you where that light comes from.

♍ Virgo: Swallowed Words, Undervalued Worth

Venus retreats through your 3rd house, the house of conversations, words and messages, then your 2nd house, the house of self-worth and money. For you, dear Virgo, self-betrayal in love takes two roads: what you don't say, and what you don't allow yourself. You're so busy improving the people and things around you that you forget to grant yourself the same patience.

The Scorpio phase brings back the missed conversations. All those times you thought “I should tell them,” then kept quiet because it wasn't the right moment, because you were afraid of sounding too critical, because you didn't want to be “difficult.” With Mercury, your ruler, turning retrograde on October 24, those swallowed words may loop in your head. It's unpleasant, but it's useful.

The Libra phase touches your worth. How much do you think you deserve in love? Probably less than you give. Virgo has an unfortunate habit of underestimating itself, accepting crumbs while telling itself it doesn't need more. During these weeks, money questions in the relationship (who pays for what, who fronts the cash, who pays back) may expose that imbalance more bluntly.

Your advice: every evening, write down one sentence you didn't dare say during the day, then pick one a week to say out loud. Say it calmly, without justifying yourself. To see what next year holds for your love life, read your Virgo yearly horoscope.

♎ Libra: The Mirror You Held Up for Others

Venus retreats through your 2nd house, the house of self-worth, then comes back into your 1st house, the house of self-image and personality. Venus is your ruling planet: this retrograde is about you first and foremost. And you, dear Libra, know this subject by heart. The need to please, the fear of conflict, the art of adapting to everyone: it's your gift and your trap.

During the Scorpio phase, the question is what you're worth in your own eyes. Have you measured your value by how others see you? Did you feel worthy of love only when you were pleasant, accommodating, perfect? Libra often learned very early that harmony was its job. But carrying the balance of a relationship all by yourself isn't love, it's a full-time job.

From October 25, Venus comes back into your sign, moving backward, and the Libra phase becomes a face-off with your own reflection. Who are you when you're not mirroring someone else's wishes? What do you really love, apart from what pleases others? The direct station on November 13 happens at 22°51' of your sign: if you were born around mid-October, you'll have a front-row seat.

Your advice: every day, make one tiny decision without consulting anyone, not your partner, not your friends, not social media. The color of a sweater, a meal, a route home. You'll rediscover the taste of your own tastes. Revisit your Libra love compatibility too: it shows the signs with whom balance comes naturally instead of being fought for.

♏ Scorpio: The Mask, Then the Secrets

Venus stations on October 3 in your sign, at 8°29', and retreats through your 1st house before reaching your 12th house, the house of secrets, the unconscious and the past. It all starts with you, dear Scorpio. And since you're the most clear-eyed sign in the zodiac about other people's shadows, this retrograde invites you to turn the spotlight on your own.

The Scorpio phase confronts you with your image in love. You're known for being all-in, passionate, uncompromising. But behind that armor, how often did you play a role to be chosen? The mysterious one, the strong one, the one who needs nobody? That mask protected you, but it also cut you off from what you really wanted: to be loved in your vulnerability. Around October 23, the night of the Sun-Venus conjunction, that mask could seriously crack (and that's good news).

The Libra phase takes you down into your 12th house, where secrets sleep. Regrets you never confessed, feelings you buried alive, relationships you walked away from without ever digesting them. The 12th house isn't a place for action, it's a place for retreat and healing. To learn more, our article on the 12th house in astrology explores all its nuances.

Your advice: tell one true thing about yourself to someone you trust, something you've never said before. Not to test them, not to control anything, just to lighten the load. Your Scorpio portrait will remind you that your power was never in secrecy, but in transformation.

♐ Sagittarius: Friends and Freedom Put on Mute

Venus retreats through your 12th house, the house of the inner world and hidden things, then your 11th house, the house of friendships, networks and group projects. For you, dear Sagittarius, lover of open air and far horizons, self-betrayal in love often tastes like a golden cage. You may have agreed, for love, to give up part of your freedom. And you never quite admitted it to yourself.

The Scorpio phase works quietly, backstage in your life. Vague regrets, unexplained melancholy, strangely vivid dreams: that's your 12th house at work. It reminds you of the trips you didn't take, the projects you dropped because your partner wouldn't follow, the adventurous part of you that you packed away. Sagittarius hates dwelling on things, but this time you'll have to agree to look back.

When the Libra phase begins, your social circle lights up. Did you lose touch with friends who mattered? Did you stop showing up to a group, a club, a crew, because your love story took all the room, or because your partner didn't like them? Sacrificed friendships are a very discreet form of self-betrayal. They often come knocking during Venus retrograde.

Your advice: before November 13, reach out to one friend you let slip away during a relationship. A simple message is enough. To see how your love life shapes up next year, check your Sagittarius yearly horoscope.

♑ Capricorn: Dreams and Ambition Set Aside

Venus retreats through your 11th house, the house of friendships, hopes and future plans, then your 10th house, the house of career, status and calling. People picture you as unbending, dear Capricorn, hardly the type to abandon yourself for anyone. In reality, you're one of the most loyal signs in the zodiac. And loyalty, pushed too far, can make you give up on yourself without even noticing.

The Scorpio phase shines a light on your hopes. Which dreams did you lock in a drawer to build a solid relationship? Did you put aside a personal project, a career change, a wish to live elsewhere, because it “wasn't reasonable” as a couple? Capricorn tends to confuse responsibility with sacrifice. And your friends may, without meaning to, reflect back the person you could have become.

The Libra phase goes straight to your career. That may be where your biggest self-betrayal lies: holding back your ambition so you wouldn't threaten your partner, or on the contrary throwing everything into work to avoid intimacy. Either way, you let love and calling compete instead of coexisting. A work conversation, an opportunity back on the table, could force you to choose.

Your advice: write down in black and white a personal or professional dream you abandoned for a relationship, and note the first small step to pick it back up. Nothing is lost, it's all on hold. Your Capricorn love compatibility will help you identify partners who support your ambitions instead of holding them back.

♒ Aquarius: Convictions Bent to Please

Venus retreats through your 10th house, the house of public image and career, then your 9th house, the house of beliefs, ideals and distant horizons. You, dear Aquarius, the sign of originality, independence and free thinking, betraying yourself for love? It sounds absurd to you. And yet your need to be accepted exactly as you are sometimes pushes you to smooth the edges more than you'd admit.

The Scorpio phase confronts you with your image. How do you show up as a couple, in public? Did you soften your personality to match what your partner, or their family, expected? Did you hide your quirks, your causes, your unusual friendships? Aquarius hates conventions, but sometimes bends to them for love, and feels a dull weariness as a result.

The Libra phase touches your deepest values. That's often where the most painful self-betrayal lies for you: giving up a conviction, a commitment, a worldview, because the other person didn't share it. You kept quiet at dinners, let comments slide that offended you, gave up a trip, a course, a spiritual quest. You put your ideals on mute to keep the peace.

Your advice: reaffirm a conviction that matters to you, in words or actions, at least once a week during the retrograde. No aggression, no need to convince anyone, just to exist. Your Aquarius portrait will remind you that your uniqueness is precisely what makes you lovable.

♓ Pisces: The Rescue That Swallowed You Whole

Venus retreats through your 9th house, the house of beliefs and ideals, then your 8th house, the house of merging, intimacy and deep transformation. Venus is exalted in your sign: love is your mother tongue, dear Pisces. And that is exactly why you're so good at getting lost in it. You love so generously that you often end up dissolving into the other person.

The Scorpio phase touches your beliefs about love. What idea of love has guided you so far? The one that says loving means rescuing? That you must forgive everything? That true love has no limits? Those beliefs, beautiful on paper, may have kept you too long beside people who took advantage of your compassion. The retrograde invites you to reread them, tenderly, but also clearly.

The Libra phase plunges you into your 8th house, where merging sometimes turns into erasing yourself. Did you confuse intimacy with self-abandonment? Did you carry the other person's problems, debts and emotions as if they were your own? Pisces has a rare emotional porousness: during these weeks, you may physically feel the weight of everything you absorbed for others.

Your advice: before helping anyone between now and November 13, ask yourself one question: “do I have the energy for this, or am I doing it to be loved?” And respect the answer. To find out what the year ahead holds for your heart, check your Pisces yearly horoscope.

Repairing Yourself During Venus Retrograde: A Six-Week Ritual ✍️

Recognizing that you betrayed yourself for love is a first step. But Venus retrograde doesn't just ask you to notice: it gives you six weeks to repair. Here's a simple path to follow at your own pace, pegged to the retrograde's key dates. Get a dedicated notebook (a real paper one: Venus loves pretty things) and a quiet moment, ideally on Fridays, the day traditionally tied to the planet.

  1. Week 1 (from October 3): the inventory. List your important relationships, past and present. For each one, write down one thing you kept quiet about, one boundary you let someone cross, one value you set aside. Don't judge, don't comment. Just write.
  2. Week 2: the body remembers. Reread your list and notice your physical sensations. Where does each memory live? Tight throat, knotted stomach, tense shoulders? Scorpio is a deep water sign: what the mind forgot, the body kept. A walk, a bath or a breathing session will help release it.
  3. Week 3 (around October 23-24): the unsent letter. On the night of the Sun-Venus conjunction, write a letter to the person you were before you betrayed yourself. Tell them what you understood, apologize if you need to, promise them what you're going to change. Don't send it to anyone: Mercury turns retrograde a few hours later, and impulsive messages are off the table.
  4. Week 4 (from October 25): balancing the exchange. Venus enters Libra. Draw two columns in your notebook: what you give in your current relationship (or in your friendships if you're single), and what you receive. Be precise: time, attention, money, listening, initiative. Spot the most glaring imbalance.
  5. Week 5: one boundary, just one. Choose a single boundary to restore, the simplest one. Put it into one sentence that starts with “I” (“I need,” “I don't want to anymore”). Say it out loud until it sounds right. Don't say it to them yet: practice.
  6. Week 6 (around November 13): speaking up and taking the first step. Mercury turns direct in the morning, Venus in the evening. It's time to tell the person concerned about your boundary, calmly, without justifying yourself. If the situation doesn't allow it, make a symbolic gesture instead: pick up an activity you dropped, see a friend you lost touch with, treat yourself to something you'd been denying yourself.

And after November 13? Keep your notebook going until December 15, when Venus leaves her shadow zone. She re-enters Scorpio on December 4, moving forward this time: you'll cross the same sensitive ground again, but with your new rules. That's often when you realize how far you've come.

A few simple habits pair well with this ritual:

  • Replace “it's fine” with “let me think about it and get back to you.” You give yourself time, and you often discover that it wasn't fine at all.
  • Look at your natal Venus: its sign and house in your birth chart describe how you love, and therefore how you tend to forget yourself.
  • Look at your Sun, Moon and rising trio too, decoded in our article on your Sun, Moon and rising signs: the Moon in particular reveals your oldest emotional needs.
  • If money is a sore spot in your relationship, read our article on money in your birth chart: the 2nd house, your worth, and the 8th house, shared money, meet there.
  • Don't make a final decision about your relationship during the retrograde: understand first, decide later, ideally after December 15.

Is Venus Retrograde a Time of Betrayal in Love? 🤔

No, Venus retrograde doesn't mean your partner is about to betray you. It reveals the places where you betrayed yourself, by swallowing your needs, crossing your own boundaries or sacrificing your values to be loved. It's a time for review, not disaster.

Of course, truths about the other person sometimes surface during these weeks too, especially in the Scorpio phase, which loves secrets. But even then, the most useful question points back to you: what had you sensed without wanting to see it? Which signals did you choose to ignore to protect the relationship? Answering honestly is already a way of taking your power back.

As a rule, it's better to avoid final decisions during Venus retrograde. This period is for understanding what's wrong, not for cutting ties on the spot: what you see now is real, but your perspective is still taking shape.

This isn't a ban. If you're in a relationship that puts you in danger, don't wait for an astrological date to protect yourself. But in most cases, the retrograde highlights an imbalance that can be corrected. Many couples come out of Venus retrograde stronger, because they finally put words to what was stuck. And if a breakup is still the answer, you'll go through it better for having taken the time to understand it. Our article on recovering from a breakup will be there for you if that's your path.

How Do You Know If You Betrayed Yourself in Love? 🔍

The most reliable sign is a gap between what you say and what you feel: you say “yes,” “sure,” “it's nothing,” and your body or your mood says the opposite. The second sign is relationship fatigue, that dull weariness that doesn't come from the other person but from the constant effort to adapt.

There are other clues: you struggle to say what you really like, you feel more like yourself with your friends than with your partner, you feel like you've lost pieces of yourself along the way. During Venus retrograde, those clues become more visible. Astrologically, the placement of Venus and your 7th house offer valuable leads, as does the Black Moon, or Lilith, which speaks of the part of you that refuses to be tamed.

Venus Retrograde: Finding Yourself Instead of Judging Yourself 🌱

Venus retrograde isn't here to accuse you. It doesn't say you loved badly, or that you were naive or weak. It simply shows you, with the precision of a mirror, the places where you left yourself behind for love. What you do with that is entirely up to you.

You can choose to reopen a conversation, restore a boundary, pick up a dream, reconnect with a friend. You can also choose not to change anything right away, and simply know. The stars don't decide anything for you: they shed light. Free will stays fully in your hands. And if you'd like to understand more broadly how the planets shape the way you love, our zodiac encyclopedia is a great place to start.

The most beautiful repair, in the end, isn't never betraying yourself again. It's learning to notice sooner, and to come back to yourself gently. Six weeks of Venus retrograde is short. But it's more than enough time to make peace with the person who'll be by your side for the rest of your life: you.

A word from the editor: What if your chart already knows where you lose yourself?

The placement of Venus, the Moon and the 7th house in your birth chart describes exactly how you love, and how you tend to disappear. An astrologer can help you read those placements during the retrograde and turn what comes up into new rules for your love life.
