A horoscope by sign reads the sky as if your sign sat in the 1st house, the house of personality. The next sign becomes your 2nd house (money), the one after that your 3rd house (communication), and so on, all the way to the 12th.
When a planet moves through a sign, I look at which house it falls in for you and work out the area of life involved: that's the whole idea behind the astrological houses.

And your rising sign is precisely the starting point of your houses in your birth chart.
Read from your rising sign, the same planetary transit usually lands in a different house, and therefore in a different area of your life. That's why two people with the same sign can live the same year in such different ways.

How Do You Find Your Rising Sign?

To find your rising sign, you need three pieces of information: your date, time and place of birth.
The time is the deciding factor, because the rising sign changes throughout the day: at the latitude of New York, it stays a little over an hour in the fastest signs (Aries, Pisces) and around two and a half hours in the slowest ones (Leo through Scorpio). Being off by half an hour can be enough to change signs.
