Where the Oracle of the Triad comes from
The Oracle of the Triad is a modern divination deck created by Dominike Duplaa, a calligraphy enthusiast, in 1992. Unlike traditional tarots and oracles, this 57-card deck deliberately stands apart through its artwork, its symbolism and its analogies — borrowed from a vast range of traditions: Greco-Roman mythology, Christianity, Judaism, Kabbalah, Freemasonry, alchemy, astrology and numerology. That research brings together the beliefs that grew, across the ages, around the Mediterranean basin — in Greece, Persia, Egypt and the Middle East.
The name "Triad" refers to divine trinities as much as to the mysticism of the number 3, a symbolism also found in Christianity, Judaism and Kabbalah.
The deck was such a success that a counterfeit version, sold under the name "Oracle of Babylon" (79 cards), ended up in court — in a case won by Dominike Duplaa.

The 57 cards of the deck, from Alpha to Omega
The Oracle of the Triad is made up of 57 cards, each one numbered and carrying a unique name — with no grouping into families, unlike other decks. It is sometimes nicknamed "the Alpha and the Omega of divinatory tarots", since its first card is called Alpha and its last one Omega.
This deck has one striking feature: a genuine dating system. The first 12 cards stand for the months of the year (card 1 = January, card 2 = February, and so on). Beyond the 12th card, you reduce the number to a single digit to obtain the month (card 13, for instance, gives 1+3 = 4, so April).
Some cards, however, point to precise durations rather than to a month:
- Card 12 (The Seal) — 1 year
- Card 24 (Wealth) — 2 years
- Card 36 (The Journey) — 3 years
- Card 48 (The Soul) — 4 years
Card 47 (Eternity) suggests a duration in months or in years, while card 29 (Elevation) points rather to a matter of weeks.
