The sixteenth card of the Oracle of the Triad, Mutation describes a transformation under way. Not a plan to change: a change that is happening.

The deck calls it necessary. That is its most useful nuance: what is shifting had to shift, even if the timing is wrong and even if you had settled in comfortably.

It sits close to The Door through its ambivalence, but with a clear difference: The Door is a threshold you cross, Mutation is a metamorphosis you undergo.

In love it describes a relationship changing in nature: moving on to something else, redefining the couple, sometimes separation — but also a friendship turning into a story.

It rarely announces the status quo. What existed in one form will exist in another.

At work it is the card of reorganisations: change of role, of department, of trade, restructuring endured or chosen.

Financially it points to a shift in the balance — income changing in nature rather than rising or falling.

Beyond the twelfth card you reduce the number to a single digit to obtain the month. Mutation carries 16: 1+6 = 7, meaning July. It shares the month with The Door (card 7), which is fitting: two cards of tipping points.
