Where does the August 2, 2027 eclipse fall in your chart?
Enter your date, time and place of birth: find out where the Sun sits in your birth chart, and which area of your life the eclipse in Leo comes to shake up.
On Monday, August 2, 2027, the Moon will completely block the Sun for 6 minutes and 23 seconds near Luxor, Egypt. In the US, the sky won't go dark at all: the eclipse can't be seen from anywhere in the country.
Astrologically, you don't need a front-row seat. Here's what's at stake in Leo, and what it will stir up in your life, sign by sign 😏
When
08/02/2027, New Moon at 6:05 a.m. ET
Where in the sky
♌ At 10° Leo, close to the South Node
Where it's total
Southern Spain, North Africa, Egypt, Arabia
In the US
Not visible
Its family
Saros 136, the same as the record eclipse of 2009
Signs most affected
Leo, Taurus, Scorpio, Aquarius
✦
Totality often lasts two or three minutes. This one offers more than double that. The reason is simple: that day, the Moon has just passed its closest point to Earth, a few hours before the eclipse. It looks bigger, so it covers the Sun for longer.
The path of totality starts over the Atlantic, crosses the Strait of Gibraltar, sweeps across North Africa, then heads on to Arabia and Somalia. Night lasts longest just southeast of Luxor. No eclipse will last this long over easily accessible land until June 3, 2114.
No. The Moon's shadow sweeps across the other side of the Atlantic, from southern Spain to the Horn of Africa, and no part of the United States sees even a partial eclipse. To experience night in broad daylight, you'd have to travel to Cádiz or Málaga in Spain, Tangier in Morocco, or Luxor in Egypt. The good news: the next eclipse in this same family, on August 12, 2045, will cross the US from coast to coast.

⚠ Protect your eyes
If you travel to see it, remember that even a mostly covered Sun burns the retina, painlessly and without warning. Only look at it through eclipse glasses that meet the ISO 12312-2 standard: sunglasses, however dark, offer no protection.
✦
A solar eclipse is a New Moon times ten: it opens a new chapter, often without warning. This one forms at 10° Leo, the sign of the heart, of pride and of the urge to shine. It also falls close to the Moon's South Node, which stands for the past and old habits. Since summer 2026, the lunar nodes have been on the Leo-Aquarius axis: Leo is “me,” Aquarius is “us.” The message is twofold: you drop an old role, the one you played to be loved, and you dare to show up as who you really are.
“What goes dark on August 2 isn't the Sun. It's the character you've been playing out of habit.”
Good news: the sky that day is rather kind. Venus travels with the eclipse, and three planets send it harmonious aspects. Only Pluto, opposite, pulls the other way: it asks you to let go of control. An eclipse near the South Node is more about letting go than starting from scratch, anyway. That's why I read it as a fresh start for the heart that begins with a goodbye, rather than as an ordeal.
♀ Venus
Leo, 7°, conjunct the eclipse
→ Love and pleasure take center stage
♂ Mars
Libra, 10°, sextile
→ The courage to make the first move
♅ Uranus
Gemini, 9°, sextile
→ A meeting or an idea out of the blue
♆ Neptune
Aries, 6°, trine
→ Intuition guides your choices
♇ Pluto
Aquarius, 5°, opposition
→ Letting go of control, and what no longer fits you

An eclipse doesn't stop on the day itself: its effects unfold over several weeks. Here are the key dates of the summer, in Eastern Time.
✦
Eclipses come in families, tied to the axis of the lunar nodes. This one closes a series that began last year: the total eclipse of August 12, 2026, already in Leo, then an annular eclipse in Aquarius on February 6, 2027. August 2, 2027 is the last solar eclipse in Leo of the series. The next one, on January 26, 2028, will form in Aquarius.
It's not the first time Leo has gone dark: the Great American Eclipse of August 21, 2017 was in Leo too, as were the total eclipses of August 11, 1999 and August 1, 2008. If one of those years marked a turning point in your life (a meeting, a breakup, a move), take a close look at what summer 2027 reopens.

I read the eclipse by your Sun sign: it falls in the area of life of the house shown. The most affected are the four fixed signs: Leo, Taurus, Scorpio and Aquarius. For a finer reading, check your rising sign too.
♈ Aries House 5
Love at first sight ahead. A romance, a creative project or the wish for a child comes to life: dare to show it.
♉ Taurus House 4
Your home is on the move. A move, renovations or a new place in the family: a page of your story turns.
♊ Gemini House 3
One conversation changes everything. A message, a short trip or an unexpected idea gets you moving again.
♋ Cancer House 2
Money and self-worth are on the table. Finally dare to ask for what you're worth, without apologizing.
♌ Leo House 1
This is your eclipse. New look, new course: you drop an old role for a truer version of yourself.
♍ Virgo House 12
A pause behind the scenes. You gently close a door before your big comeback, when the Sun enters your sign.
♎ Libra House 11
Friends open a door for you. A group, a network or a shared dream takes on a new place in your life.
♏ Scorpio House 10
Your career in the spotlight. A new position, more visibility or a professional turn is taking shape.
♐ Sagittarius House 9
Wanderlust wins. Travel, studies or a new philosophy of life: you're looking further ahead.
♑ Capricorn House 8
A deep transformation. A bond grows closer, a debt or an inheritance gets settled, a page turns for good.
♒ Aquarius House 7
The other person takes center stage. A relationship is declared, decided or redefined: as a couple, you start over on new terms.
♓ Pisces House 6
Your daily life reinvents itself. A new rhythm, new habits and fresh attention to your health.

No. The eclipse is only visible from parts of Europe, Africa and Asia. Totality crosses southern Spain, North Africa, Egypt and Saudi Arabia: that's where you'd need to be to see the sky go dark in the middle of the day.
No. An eclipse shakes things up, but it doesn't punish anyone: it shines a light on what needs to change. This one, surrounded by gentle planets, even has a good reputation. Just avoid signing an irreversible decision on the day itself.
In astrology, an eclipse is said to work for about six months. Its effects are often felt a few days before and after the date.
