The Lunar Nodes are the sky's discreet compass: no fireworks, just a needle that swings around every 18 months or so. In 2026, it turned once, and not just any old way. On July 26, the North Node left Pisces for Aquarius, while the South Node moved from Virgo into Leo. New heading: less “look at me,” more “let's move forward together.” Aquarius and Leo, you sit right on the axis; Taurus and Scorpio, you're caught in the middle, square to it. And good news for lovers of stability: all of 2027 unfolds under this same axis, paced by its eclipses, before the next turn in March 2028. Ready to follow your North without disowning your South? 🧭

Which Signs Are the Lunar Nodes in During 2026? The Key Dates 🗓️
Write it in your planner (in pen this time, since it lasts 20 months): since July 26, 2026, we've been living with the North Node in Aquarius and the South Node in Leo. It follows the Lunar Nodes in Pisces and Virgo, in place since January 11, 2025, and gives way on March 26, 2028, to the Lunar Nodes in Capricorn and Cancer. In each row, the first sign is the North Node's, the second the South Node's. The dates are those of the true Node:

North Node in Aquarius, South Node in Leo: Why This Transit Is So Freeing
Aquarius, an air sign ruled by Saturn and Uranus, stands for owning your uniqueness, innovation and fellowship. Leo, a fire sign ruled by the Sun, is the heart, creation… and the need to be seen. With the North Node in Aquarius, the sky asks us to look up toward the collective and toward the future; with the South Node in Leo, to let go of the urge to have every step applauded (yes, we see you checking the little hearts under your posts). And since Jupiter is also moving through Leo until July 26, 2027, the little ego has every reason to swell: hence that occasional feeling of being pulled in two directions. But this transit also serves a real purpose: it frees you from the need to shine in order to exist, as long as you ask yourself the right questions:
- What is truly me, beyond what others think?
- Which project, bigger than me, do I want to contribute to?
- Where am I still playing a role to be loved?
- Who do I want to move forward with, without competing?
Until March 26, 2028, it's time to move from “me” to “us,” from seeking attention to simple authenticity. Here, there's no shadow period as with a retrograde planet: eclipse seasons are the high points. The next one arrives in February 2027, with a solar eclipse in Aquarius on the 6th, then a lunar eclipse on the evening of the 20th. The one after that, from mid-July to mid-August 2027, includes a total solar eclipse in Leo on August 2. My advice: don't make irreversible decisions in the heat of the moment around these dates, let things settle for a few days.

What Are the Lunar Nodes, Exactly? 🪐
The Astronomy: Two Crossroads in the Sky
Don't worry, there's no celestial body hiding behind this name: the Lunar Nodes are two imaginary points. Picture two roads that cross: on one side, the ecliptic, the Sun's apparent path across the sky; on the other, the Moon's orbit, slightly tilted in relation to it. They meet at two points. The North Node marks where the Moon passes “going up,” the South Node where it passes “going down.” Always facing each other, they occupy two opposite signs.
And these crossroads move. Unlike the planets, the Nodes travel backward through the zodiac, without ever moving forward again: they need about 18 and a half years to go all the way around, so a little over 18 months per pair of signs. A quick astrologer's note: we distinguish the true Node, the actual position, which wobbles slightly, from the mean Node, a smoothed-out position. Here I follow the true Node, which is why dates can differ by a few weeks from one site to another (with the mean Node, the Aquarius transit begins on August 18, 2026, and ends on March 7, 2028).
What you can see with the naked eye are the eclipses: they only happen when a New Moon or a Full Moon falls near the axis of the Nodes. In 2026, the total solar eclipse in Leo on August 12 lit up the new axis, and the partial lunar eclipse in Pisces on August 28 closed the old one. In 2027, five eclipses, from February 6 to August 17, will light it up in turn. Here are the five stages of a transit, as we live them:

The Astrological Reading: A Compass, Not a Destiny
In astrology, the Nodes are linked to the Moon, the world of emotions and habits, and they work like a compass. The South Node represents your comfort zone: your natural talents, your old reflexes, what you can do with your eyes closed. The North Node shows the direction to take, a bit like your GPS. In karmic astrology, the South tells of what you acquired in past lives and the North of your path of growth in this one: if the subject speaks to you, dig into the link between astrology and karma. There are two complementary readings: your natal Lunar Nodes, fixed in your chart, and the Nodes of the moment, which transit for everyone and change lessons with each transit. It's the latter that eclipses in astrology come to light up, twice a year.
The South Node, a Punishment? Not at All
It's a stubborn myth: the South Node is supposedly the “bad” side, the one to run from. Absolutely not! No axis is better than another, and the Nodes describe neither luck nor bad luck, but a path of growth. The South is your precious baggage: the idea isn't to throw it away, but to lean on it so you dare to head North. You move forward with your luggage, not by leaving it on the platform. As for rarity, nothing spectacular: an axis change every 18 months or so, as has always been the case. And let's be honest: no scientific study has ever shown that an axis change shakes up our lives; in astrology, it's an invitation, not an order.
Your Birth Nodes and the Nodal Return
Since the Nodes come back to their birth position about every 18 and a half years, your life is punctuated by “nodal returns”: around 18-19, 37, 55-56, then 74. These are often real turning points: leaving the family home, a career change, a commitment that sets a new direction. Halfway between, around 9, 28, 46-47 or 65, the Nodes in the sky are reversed compared to your natal position: the North passes over your South, and yesterday's comfort gets called into question. Think back: didn't you go through a big upheaval around 18 or 37? It may not have been a coincidence.
The Dates of the Transit, Year by Year
A Nodes transit lasts more than a year and a half, so I've broken it down by year, with the dates to remember: the start and end of the axis, the eclipses that light it up, and the planets' big meetings with the Nodes.
