The 4 Owls of the Persian tarot: the tone of a reading

The Owls are the clearest singularity of the Persian tarot: four cards that belong to none of the three other categories. They describe neither a theme, nor a person, nor an event — they set the tone of the reading.
A signal, a warning or a confirmation.

The 4 Owls: the category apart

Of the 55 cards in the Persian tarot, four escape the filing system. The Owls are not major arcana — they do not set the theme — nor family cards: they carry no Sickle, no Scimitar, no Heart, no Shield.

Their job lies elsewhere: they qualify what the other cards are saying. An Owl in a reading is a note held in the background that tints the whole.

Four cards, four possible tones for your reading.

What the Owls reveal in a reading

An Owl does not answer the question asked: it tells you how to hear the answer.

• The Owl alone settles the reading: protection, wisdom, a situation under control. It is the most reassuring of the four.
• The 3 of Owls puts the querent in front of a choice that logic will not settle — only intuition will.
• The 7 of Owls announces material luck: money coming in, an opportunity, a financial helping hand.
• The 9 of Owls confirms that a change is on its way: it is the card of wishes coming true.

The Indira spread, the cross spread specific to this deck, uses only one of them at a time — proof that these cards are designed as an accent, not as a pillar.
