The 4-card autumn money spread: the protocol 🕯️
Four cards is enough. I've used this spread for money questions for years, because it forces you to separate what happens to you from what you decide.

1. Ask the real question, not the polite one
Write it down before you shuffle. "Am I going to be okay?" will give you nothing: that's anxiety, not a question. "What weighs heaviest in my budget this autumn, and what can I lighten before December?" is a question. The difference in reading quality is dramatic, and it has nothing to do with the cards.
2. Deal four cards, in this order
Face down, left to right. Card 1: the real state of your finances — not what you believe, what is. Card 2: the leak — what costs you and returns nothing. Card 3: the forgotten resource — a skill, a person, money sitting idle. Card 4: the move to make before the solstice, on December 21 at 3:50 pm.
3. Read the line, not the cards one by one
This is mistake number one. A single card says almost nothing; the sequence is what talks. The Devil in position 2 followed by The Star in position 3 isn't "a debt and some luck", it's "what you're overpaying is funding something you could already have for free". Look at where the figures are facing, too: who has their back to whom? That's often where the answer sits.
4. Write it down, date it, put the deck away
Note the four cards and the date in a notebook, then close the deck. Read it back in late December. It's the only honest way to know whether your reading held up — and the only safeguard against dealing again until you get the answer you wanted.
The 8 arcana that genuinely talk about money 🪙
Any card can show up in a money spread. But eight major arcana speak to money directly, and recognising them changes everything.

The Magician (I): the tools are already on the table
A young man, a table, objects in disarray. In money terms this is the start: the freelancer going solo, the budget rebuilt from scratch, the first invoice. The message is encouraging but demanding: you already have everything you need, what's missing is order. Drawn in position 4, this card asks for one concrete action this week, not a five-year plan.
The Pope (V): the advice that's worth its price
The card of structure, transmission, contracts. Accountant, banker, notary, broker: The Pope is telling you the answer already exists in the head of someone competent, and that going to see them is not an admission of weakness. It's also the card of the rules you'd love to bend and had better respect.
The Wheel of Fortune (X): it rises, it falls, it comes back
The arcanum of cycles. It puts things in proportion: the hard stretch is not your financial identity, it's one point on a curve. Careful though — the Wheel rewards those who plan for the next turn, not those who wait for it to spin by itself. Set money aside during the easy months.
The Devil (XV): what ties you down without you seeing it
The most useful card in financial tarot, and the most misread. The Devil isn't misfortune: it's bonds. Forgotten subscriptions, revolving credit, a loan from a relative never settled, the impulse buy that soothes for ten minutes. It doesn't condemn, it points. Pull your last three statements and look for the line you already know about.
The Tower (XVI): the expense nobody planned
The struck tower, the figures falling. In money: boiler, car, tooth, laptop. Brutal, but rarely fatal — in a spread it almost always turns up next to a resource card. Its real lesson: a structure that cracks was already fragile before the storm.
The Star (XVII): the flow that comes back
A woman pouring two jugs into a river. This is circulation: help arriving, a debt repaid to you, generosity returning by another road. The Star is gentle but slow: it promises a gradual improvement, not a transfer tomorrow morning.
The Sun (XIX): success that shows, and pays
Two children, a wall, clean light. Recognition, a raise, a contract signed in the open, a partnership that works. Its nuance: the Sun also lights up what you'd rather have left in the shade. An audit, a correction, a transparency to own.
The World (XXI): it's finished, now invoice it
The last card of the deck. End of the job, file closed, money genuinely coming in. In fourth position it says: the move to make is to admit the thing is done, and bill for it. A lot of people leave finished work sitting there without ever sending the invoice.
And the Coins? Those are the 14 cards of hard cash. The Ace of Coins: a seed, a first income. The Ten of Coins: assets, family, what gets passed on. The King of Coins: calm management, the one who knows how to say no. In a money spread, a majority of Coins is a good sign: the matter is concrete, therefore actionable.
Why is autumn 2026 reshuffling your money? 🍁
Because the two planets that govern value and contracts back up almost simultaneously. Here is the season's real calendar, in New York time.
| Date | Event | What it moves, money-wise |
| Sep 22, 8:05 pm | Equinox, Sun into Libra | Shared accounts get rebalanced |
| Oct 3, 3:15 am | Venus retrograde (8° Scorpio) | A review of what you believe you're worth |
| Oct 10, 11:50 am | New Moon in Libra | A good time to ask a money question again |
| Oct 23, 11:44 pm | Sun conjunct Venus in Scorpio | The heart of the review: you see what you avoided |
| Oct 24, 3:12 am | Mercury retrograde (21° Scorpio) | Reread contracts, don't sign them |
| Oct 26, 12:11 am | Full Moon in Taurus | The season's peak on the possessions axis |
| Nov 9, 2:02 am | New Moon in Scorpio | Debt, splitting, other people's money |
| Nov 13 | Mercury then Venus turn direct | The light goes green |
| Nov 16, 1:24 am | Mars conjunct Jupiter in Leo | The best window to dare to ask |
| Dec 12, 7:56 pm | Jupiter retrograde (27° Leo) | Consolidate instead of expanding |
| Dec 21, 3:50 pm | Solstice, Sun into Capricorn | Closing time: do the accounts |
October 3 to November 13: Venus retrograde, the card of the fair price
Venus backs up from October 3 at 3:15 am, from 8°29 Scorpio. She re-enters Libra in the last days of October, stops at 22°52 of that sign, and moves forward again on November 13 at 7:27 pm. The most interesting point falls on October 23 at 11:44 pm: the Sun joins her exactly, in the middle of her backward walk. In tarot language, that's Death on the table — something gets settled. Concretely, this is the stretch where you discover you're underpaid, that a subscription has been running for two years, or that a friend never returned the £400. That isn't bad news. It's a reset to the fair price.
October 24 to November 13: Mercury retrograde, the card of contracts
Mercury backs up on October 24 at 3:12 am from 20°57 Scorpio, and turns direct on November 13 at 10:53 am — nine hours before Venus, on the same day. Three weeks overlapping the Venus retrograde: clauses reread, negotiations restarting from zero, transfers going astray. Nothing forbids you from signing, but read twice and keep a written trail of everything. The Pope again: have it checked by someone who knows.
November 16 to December 12: the window where you push forward
Here the colour changes. Mars joins Jupiter in Leo on November 16 at 1:24 am — drive and expansion on the same square. Venus supports Jupiter on November 4 and 28. This is the season's stretch for asking for a raise, sending an ambitious quote, launching the venture that's been drifting since summer. The window closes on December 12 at 7:56 pm, when Jupiter goes into reverse in turn: after that date, consolidate rather than expand. Good news on the other hand, Saturn turns direct on December 10 at 6:31 pm, Neptune on December 12 at 5:18 pm, and Pluto did so back on October 15 at 10:39 pm: the late-autumn sky is markedly smoother than October's.
One detail that matters: no eclipse this autumn. The four eclipses of 2026 fell in February, March and August. The season's lunations are therefore ordinary New Moons and Full Moons — intense, but without an eclipse's extra charge.
Your financial arcanum sign by sign: the 12 cards of autumn ♻️
Each sign carries a major arcanum. Here's what your card has to say about your money between now and the solstice.
♈ Aries — The Emperor (IV) 🔥
Dear Aries, your card is the one of seated authority. And Saturn and Neptune are crossing your sign in reverse until December 10 and 12: autumn is asking you to govern a budget you let slide for lack of time. The Full Moon in your sign, on September 26 at 12:49 pm, opens the season in full light on that subject. The Emperor doesn't say "spend less", it says "decide for yourself". Set a weekly ceiling and hold it for three weeks: it's easier than a year-long diet. Full card meaning: The Emperor in the Tarot de Marseille.
♉ Taurus — The Pope (V) 💰
Taurus, this is your season in the most literal sense: the Full Moon of October 26 at 12:11 am falls in your sign, on the very axis of possessions, and Venus your ruler is then in full reverse. Translation: what you own is being revalued, sometimes downward, often more fairly. The Pope whispers that you shouldn't carry this alone. One appointment with an adviser, an accountant, or simply someone who can read a contract will earn you more than three months of going without. Book that appointment before the Full Moon of October 26. For the rest of the year, your Taurus yearly horoscope fills in the picture.
♊ Gemini — The Lover (VI) 🔀
Gemini, your card is the one of choice, and Mercury your ruler backs up from October 24 to November 13. You're going to hesitate between two income streams, two assignments, two ways of invoicing. The Lover won't decide for you: it reminds you that not choosing is also a choice, and the most expensive one. Uranus is also crossing your sign against the current all season, which explains that feeling of a plan changing every fortnight. Give yourself a decision deadline: November 13, when Mercury and Venus both move forward again. See The Lover in the Tarot de Marseille.
♋ Cancer — The Chariot (VII) 🚀
Cancer, Mars leaves your sign on September 27 at 10:48 pm. You lose a little personal fuel but you gain clarity: this quarter, money no longer comes from raw effort, it comes from direction. The Chariot is two horses pulling two different ways — your two activities, your job and your side project. Work out which one is actually moving. Give the one that pays more two extra hours a week, taken from the other. Card meaning: The Chariot.
♌ Leo — Strength (XI) 🦁
Leo, you're the best-served sign of the autumn: Mars enters your sign on September 27 and joins Jupiter there on November 16 at 1:24 am. Energy and expansion on the same square is rare. Your risk isn't scarcity, it's the prestige purchase — the grand gesture you regret in January. Strength is that woman holding the lion's jaws open without violence: composure, not deprivation. Before any purchase over $200, wait 48 hours. Careful: Jupiter backs up in your sign from December 12, at 27°02 Leo. Card details: Strength.
♍ Virgo — The Hermit (IX) 🔍
Virgo, the Hermit and his lantern is you in front of a spreadsheet on a Sunday evening — and honestly, nobody does it better. Mercury your ruler backs up from October 24 to November 13: that's precisely the window for the audit, not for the commitment. Mars arrives in your sign on November 25 at 6:37 pm and will hand you back the urge to act. Do your line-by-line review in November, decide in December. The reverse order would cost you dearly. Card meaning: The Hermit.
♎ Libra — Justice (VIII) ⚖️
Libra, the Sun enters your sign on September 22 at 8:05 pm and the New Moon of October 10 at 11:50 am lands there too: that's your season opener. Above all, Venus your ruler returns to your sign in the last days of October, in reverse, and picks up her road again on November 13 at 7:27 pm. Justice is the card of the exact amount: neither the fear of asking nor the excess. A salary, a rent, a split of costs has become lopsided and you know it. Put a precise figure on the gap before you open the conversation: a figure can be defended, a feeling can't. See Justice.
♏ Scorpio — Death (XIII) 🦂
Scorpio, your sign is where everything happens this autumn. Venus starts her retrograde at 8°29 of your sign on October 3, the Sun joins her on October 23 at 11:44 pm, Mercury backs up from 20°57 Scorpio, and the New Moon of November 9 at 2:02 am lands in your sign again. Your card, Death, announces no disaster at all: it cuts. A debt settled, a subscription cancelled, a collaboration ended, an account closed. Pick one single thing to bring to an end before November 9, and actually do it. To understand your deeper relationship with money, your Scorpio sign profile and the Death card meaning.
♐ Sagittarius — Temperance (XIV) 🏹
Sagittarius, the New Moon of December 8 at 7:51 pm falls in your sign, and the Sun supports Jupiter on December 18 at 4:21 pm. So you head into the holiday season with legitimate optimism… and an overflowing basket. Temperance pours liquid from one vessel to another without losing a drop: that's exactly the gesture you need. Neither austerity nor generosity that leaves you overdrawn on January 5. Set the gift budget before December 8, while your head is cool. Card meaning: Temperance.
♑ Capricorn — The Devil (XV) 🐐
Capricorn, your card has a bad reputation and it's unfair: the Devil is the card of bonds, and you carry a lot of them. Venus crosses it twice this season, on October 20 at 2:55 am and December 9 at 1:37 pm — two dates when a question of money and power surfaces. Good news: Saturn, your ruler, turns direct on December 10 at 6:31 pm, and the Sun enters your sign at the solstice, on December 21 at 3:50 pm. List every recurring commitment you have and cancel one before Christmas. One is enough to change the year. See The Devil.
♒ Aquarius — The Star (XVII) ✨
Aquarius, Pluto is crossing your sign and resumed its forward march there on October 15 at 10:39 pm: a deep transformation gets moving again, often tied to your relationship with status and money. Your card, The Star, isn't about gains: it's about circulation. Barter, mutual aid, skills exchanged, income coming from a network rather than an employer. Ask outright for the help you don't dare ask for: it's your card that gives you permission. Card meaning: The Star.
♓ Pisces — The Moon (XVIII) 🌊
Pisces, Neptune, your planet, turns direct on December 12 at 5:18 pm after months in reverse. Until then, financial fog is your natural slope: the amount you don't want to know, the statement you don't open, the price you don't dare say out loud. "I'll look at that tomorrow" — that sentence costs you more than you think. The Moon is the card of that mist, and it accuses nobody; it lights things faintly, but it does light them. Open the document you're avoiding. Today, not Sunday. Nine times out of ten the real figure is less frightening than the one you imagined. See The Moon in the Tarot de Marseille.
Three classic mistakes in a money spread 🚫
Dealing again until it suits. If you don't like the answer, ask the question differently a week later. Three spreads in a row on the same question don't give you three opinions: they give you noise.
Mistaking the tarot for the decision. The cards show tendencies, not certainties; they don't sign your loan for you. If the subject is an investment, a mortgage or a real debt, the spread prepares the conversation with a professional, it doesn't replace it.
Reading for someone else without them knowing. Dealing on your partner's or your business associate's finances "just to see" is the surest way to get a reading contaminated by your own fears. If the question concerns a joint account, deal on your share.
❓ Financial tarot: your frequently asked questions
Can financial tarot really predict money coming in?
No, and nobody serious will promise you an amount or a date. What a money spread does do well is highlight a leak you had stopped noticing, a dormant resource, or the most favourable moment to act. The money coming in, on the other hand, comes from what you do after the reading.
Which tarot card means money?
There isn't a single one. The Coins represent hard cash, the Ace of Coins a first income, the Ten of Coins family assets. Among the major arcana, The Sun and The World speak of success actually banked, The Star of a flow returning, and The Wheel of Fortune of a cycle turning back up. The Devil, meanwhile, points to money that ties you down rather than money that enriches you.
When should you do your money spread this autumn 2026?
Two windows stand out. The New Moon in Libra on October 10 at 11:50 am suits the question of balance and shared accounts. The New Moon in Scorpio on November 9 at 2:02 am suits debt, inheritance and other people's money better. Avoid signing anything important between October 24 and November 13, during the Mercury retrograde.
Can you deal again if you don't like the answer?
Technically yes, usefully no. A second immediate spread on the same question mostly measures how worried you are. Good practice is to note the spread, let at least a week pass, then reframe the question from a different angle if the subject is still raw.
Does financial tarot replace professional advice?
Never. For a loan, an investment, an estate or serious debt, the only right address is a competent professional: a bank adviser, an accountant, a notary, or a debt support service. Tarot is a tool for clarifying and for personal decision-making, not financial advice.
Your cards, your money, your call 🌟
Autumn 2026 will not decide for you. Venus retrograde doesn't empty an account; Mercury retrograde doesn't cancel a contract. These cycles do one thing only, and it's already a lot: they make visible what had become comfortably vague. Financial tarot works exactly the same way. It fixes nothing, it lights things up. The future is never entirely set, and you remain the master of your own road: the cards show tendencies and possibilities, never a verdict.
If you take one thing away from these three months, take the card-4 gesture: one single concrete action before the solstice on December 21. A cancellation, an appointment, a quote sent, an amount finally said out loud. It's very little. It's what changes everything.
Editor's note: one card, one actionDon't deal ten times this week. Deal once, write down the four cards, and choose the one action you will take before December 21. Write it on a piece of paper and leave it on your desk. The spreads that change something aren't the spectacular ones: they're the ones you act on.
And if the card worrying you is precisely the one you can't read alone, having your spread reviewed by a reader will save you weeks of circling the subject. |
