The snake, between shadow and light
The snake is the eighth animal of the Native American wheel. It matches the middle of autumn and the sign of Scorpio, with which it shares many links. Balanced between two worlds, it is both shadow and light, life and death: its creative force is as powerful as its destructive force. In the Bible, it is the one who causes the fall of Adam and Eve.
Among Native Americans, the snake fascinates through its ability to renew itself. It sheds its skin to grow, which echoes the many changes of the human being: as with Scorpio, death should lead only to transformation, to rebirth.
👉 The snake “smells” with its tongue: by flicking it out, it picks up scents from the air, which an organ in the roof of its mouth then analyzes.
