Why Is It Called the “Hunter's Moon”?
The nickname comes from North American farmers' almanacs. The Full Moon closest to the fall equinox is the Harvest Moon: in 2026, it shone on September 26, in Aries. The one that follows it, one cycle later, is the Hunter's Moon. The fields had been harvested, game was easier to spot, and its light stretched the hunting season out before winter. Every nickname of the year is in our lunar calendar.
A little quirk of this one: on Monday the 26th, the Moon rises in New York at 5:58 p.m., one minute before the Sun sets at 5:59 p.m. For a moment, the two lights face each other from opposite horizons, which is exactly what a Full Moon is: the Moon opposite the Sun. (For once, the sky draws you the diagram.)
And in the U.S., When Should You Look?
The peak comes at 12:11 a.m. ET on Monday, just after midnight, so Sunday night is the big night. On Sunday, October 25, the Moon rises in New York at 5:26 p.m., already round, and stays up until morning. On the West Coast, the peak even falls on Sunday evening, at 9:11 p.m. PT. Face east at dusk: near the horizon, it looks huge and takes on orange tints.

The Moon shines at 2°46' Taurus, facing the Sun at the same degree of Scorpio. The Taurus-Scorpio axis pits what you own against what you share, security against transformation. Is it an eclipse or a Supermoon?
Neither one. There is no eclipse this month, and strictly speaking it is not a Supermoon: the two Supermoons at the end of the year fall on November 24 and December 23.
Should I make a big decision this week?
It is better to wait a little. Mercury and Venus are retrograde at the same time: this is a time to reread, review, and renegotiate, not to sign in a hurry. After November 13, both planets are moving direct again and the path clears.
