Seheiah is the twenty-eighth sacred name of the Shem HaMephorash — the 72 divine names drawn by the Kabbalists from three verses of Exodus (XIV, 19-21). His Hebrew name סְהֵיָה translates literally as "God who heals the sick". He is also known as the angel of longevity, so closely does his mission touch the preservation of life. The traditional invocation drawn from the Psalms is: "O God, be not far from me; make haste to help me." (Psalm 71:12).
Seheiah belongs to the choir of the Dominions — the guardians of Wisdom who watch over the right measure of the world, placed under the authority of the Sephirah Hesed, Mercy. Alongside his fellow angels of this choir, such as Yeratel and Reiyel, he teaches us to govern our lives with kindness and discernment. His ruling archangel is Zadkiel, the archangel of transmutation and forgiveness.
Seheiah's mission is to watch over health and to soften the thread of our lives. He protects from accidents, from illness and from all that needlessly shortens life, and teaches us to spare our energy.
But his protection is not only physical: Seheiah awakens in us prudence and discernment, that quiet wisdom which knows how to wait for the right moment. He turns the fear of tomorrow into serene confidence, and restless haste into fruitful patience.
