Since ancient times, rose quartz has been associated with love, and it all begins in Greek mythology. During a hunt, Adonis, Aphrodite’s lover, was attacked by a boar. Rushing to his aid, the goddess tore herself on brambles: when she found her beloved lifeless, their mingled blood stained a once-white quartz pink.
Another legend tells that Eros, god of love, brought rose quartz to Earth so that those who own it would champion love rather than hate. In Ancient Egypt, it was credited with preserving youth: it was offered at the time of death and found in the tombs of noble families.

Rose quartz is a variety of quartz, the most common mineral in the Earth’s crust. Its soft hue does not come from the quartz itself but from tiny fibrous inclusions, invisible to the naked eye, that scatter light. The main deposits are in Brazil and Madagascar.
It is also a fragile color: left too long in hot sun, rose quartz fades. It is mostly found in jewelry, especially necklaces worn close to the heart.
