It all begins with Wilhelm Reich, a doctor and former student of Sigmund Freud. In the late 1930s and the 1940s, he claimed the existence of a universal life energy he called “orgone.” He devoted his research to it and founded a study center in Maine, which he named Orgonon. There he built “orgone accumulators,” boxes made of alternating layers of organic material and metal.
Orgonite as we know it was born much later, in the 1990s: Karl Welz, then Don and Carol Croft, took up this principle of alternating organic matter and metal, and set it in resin with added crystals.

Its base, called the “matrix,” is a resin: synthetic (polyester or epoxy) or natural (pine, acacia or amber). It holds everything together and is said to pass on to the crystals the pressure it exerts as it cures. Metal shavings are embedded in it, meant to attract harmful waves, along with quartz or crystals, responsible for turning negative energies into positive ones.
Gemstones add their own virtues to the mix, and some orgonites contain other additives. It comes in many forms: pyramids, spheres, pebbles, pendants or decorative objects.

According to crystal healing, everyone can take care of themselves with stones, and orgonite is no exception. Thanks to its composition, it is said to form a barrier against harmful waves by accumulating positive ones, the famous “orgones.” It would act on the person as well as on their surroundings.
