The origin of the name Mihael
Mihael is the forty-eighth sacred name of the Shem HaMephorash — the 72 divine names drawn by the kabbalists from the three verses of Exodus (XIV, 19-21). His Hebrew name מיהאל translates literally as "God the Helping Father". His key, "Concord of God", adds the nuance that sets him apart from the other angels of love: he does not create passion, he tunes it. The traditional invocation formula taken from the Psalms is: "The LORD hath made known his salvation: his righteousness hath he openly shewed in the sight of the heathen." (Psalm 98, v. 2).

Mihael belongs to the choir of the Virtues — the sixth choir, the angels who tune human desires to the needs of the soul, placed under the authority of the Sephirah Tiphereth, the balancing centre of the Tree of Life.
