Guardian Angel Mehiel: the Breath of Inspiration

💌 Your angel has a message for you

Focus, turn over the cards, and discover what they want to tell you.

The page stays blank, and yet the idea is right there. That gap is exactly Mehiel's territory. His name means “God who brings all things to life”, and it should be taken in the most concrete sense: moving what exists in a mind into what exists for real — a sentence, a drawing, a lesson, a project.

If you were born between 5 and 9 February, he has been your guardian from day one.

An Angel Has Walked With You Since Birth

Forge a stronger bond: Meet your angel

Mehiel's message

“You think you are short of ideas. Mostly you are short of patience with them. An idea rarely arrives finished: it arrives lukewarm, badly shaped, slightly ridiculous — and that is precisely when it gets dropped, just before it becomes something.”

“I do not bring you talent, I bring back to life what you already hold. Write the mediocre sentence; it will call the right one. And if your work is copied or laughed at, do not waste your strength defending it: come back to the desk, that is where I am waiting for you.”

Who is the angel Mehiel?

Mehiel is the angel of those who pass things on. The old treatises put grammar in his care — one of the disciplines of medieval scholasticism — and that says his business well: not inspiration as a lightning bolt, but the art of putting ideas in order so that they reach somebody else. Writers, teachers, speakers, researchers: he watches over those whose work is to make things clear.

The origin of the name Mehiel

Mehiel is the sixty-fourth sacred name of the Shem HaMephorash — the 72 divine names drawn by the kabbalists from the three verses of Exodus (XIV, 19-21). His Hebrew name מחיאל translates literally as “God who brings all things to life”, and tradition gives him the key “Scholar of God”. It is built on the trigram מחי, to which the divine suffix אל is added. The traditional call formula taken from the Psalms is: “Behold, the eye of the LORD is upon them that fear him, upon them that hope in his mercy.” (Psalm 33, v. 18).

His place in the angelic hierarchy

Mehiel belongs to the choir of the Archangels — the eighth choir, the bearers of knowledge, placed under the authority of the Sephira Hod, glory and radiance. These angels do not merely reveal: they teach how to use what has been revealed. Mehiel holds the eighth and last place in that choir, the one that closes it. His ruling archangel is Michael, head of the celestial militias, the one who tells true from false. His ruling planets, Mercury and the Moon, say the rest: speech and imagination.

His spiritual mission

To bring to life. The word sits in his name, and it is meant plainly: putting breath back where there is none left. Mehiel works on mental fatigue, on the discouragement of someone who has given too much, on the emptiness that follows a long effort. He gives the momentum back, then helps to make something out of it.

You recognise those he watches over by their practical imagination: they find solutions nobody else had seen, and know how to make them workable. They learn fast, enjoy learning, and hold the distance on long pieces of work. Mehiel protects them from two very precise things: discouraging criticism and plagiarism — he watches over what they create as much as over them.

If Mehiel is your protecting angel, know that he watches over you always, wherever you are. He may well decide to send you a message when he judges that you need to hear it, by sending you a mirror hour. Stay alert 😉.

The qualities Mehiel awakens

Those he accompanies do not turn into geniuses overnight; they become able to finish. These are the four gifts he works on first.

✍️
Inspiration

Not the rare flash of light, but the flow: ideas that come back regularly, and a natural ease in putting them into words.

🧠
Quickness of mind

Strong mental faculties, a flexible memory, the ability to hold a long line of reasoning without losing the thread.

🎨
Creation that gets finished

The rarest gift: carrying an idea out of the head and into the world. This is where Mehiel differs from the angels of intuition alone.

🛡️
Protection of the work

He keeps away sterile criticism, hypocrisy and plagiarism — everything that damages honest work.

Why call upon guardian angel Mehiel?

He is rarely called for grand things: he is called in front of an empty document, before an exam, the night before speaking in public. He is a working angel, and that is precisely why he answers so often.

Many report the same thing after praying to him: nothing spectacular, but the feeling that something has started moving again. The sentence that was stuck gets written. The plan becomes clear. The tiredness drops a notch. Mehiel works on momentum rather than luck — and momentum shows quickly in what you produce.

You can call upon Mehiel if:

 • You are facing a blank page: a text, a project, a speech — he restores access to ideas, and the courage of the first line.
 • You are mentally exhausted: he is the angel of stimulation and exaltation; he is invoked to regain lucidity after too dense a period.
 • You have something to pass on: teaching, pleading, convincing, publishing — he gives clarity and the right word at the right moment.
 • Your work is being copied or belittled: he protects creators from plagiarism as much as from hypocrisy, and puts the attention back on what matters.

How to invoke Mehiel

The ideal moment

Mehiel listens especially closely on his annual days of rulership: 23 May, 4 August, 16 October, 28 December and 11 March. During the day, he is most receptive between 9:00 pm and 9:20 pm. The slot falls well: it is the hour when the day is over, when nobody is asking anything of you any more, and when the mind becomes available again for what really counts.

How to prepare

Settle where you work and put in front of you whatever is being born: a notebook, a page, a sketch. Light some mastic and myrrh incense if you can. You may hold a piece of amber in your hand to strengthen the link. Sincerity is what matters.

Prayer to the angel Mehiel 🕯️

To invoke Mehiel, say this prayer with mastic and myrrh incense:

“Angel Mehiel!

“I hope from You, Lord, for the concrete help that will let me use well the gifts and powers You grant me, so that I may teach mankind — by word and by writing — the eternal truths.

“May the faculties I can acquire in life join those You grant me, and together may we bring back to life all those who ‘sleep’.

“Mehiel, I hold no other ambition than to pass on to my brothers the beauty and the usefulness of Your Universe.

“It is not an easy task, and I will only carry it through if You, Angel Mehiel, lend me Your support and Your inspiration.

“Amen!”

The associated verse — Psalm 33, v. 18

Reciting this verse is an invocation in itself. It carries the Hebrew letters of Mehiel's name according to the kabbalistic tradition.

“Behold, the eye of the LORD is upon them that fear him, upon them that hope in his mercy.”

His Hebrew name מחיאל translates as "God who brings all things to life". Tradition also gives him the key "Scholar of God". It is built on the trigram מחי, drawn from the three verses of Exodus that make up the Shem HaMephorash, to which the divine suffix אל is added.

Mehiel reigns five times a year: on 23 May, 4 August, 16 October, 28 December and 11 March. Every day he also governs the slot from 9:00 pm to 9:20 pm, the most favourable moment to address a request to him.

Is Mehiel my guardian angel?

How can I tell that Mehiel is speaking to me?

Through very clear returns of inspiration: a sentence that arrives all at once, the right word found without looking for it, the urge to create coming back after weeks of emptiness. He is also fond of clock synchronicities, particularly around 9:00 pm, and of books that fall into your hands at the right moment.
