It is built on the trigram מחי, to which the divine suffix אל is added. The traditional call formula taken from the Psalms is: “Behold, the eye of the LORD is upon them that fear him, upon them that hope in his mercy.” (Psalm 33, v. 18).

His place in the angelic hierarchy

Mehiel belongs to the choir of the Archangels — the eighth choir, the bearers of knowledge, placed under the authority of the Sephira Hod, glory and radiance. These angels do not merely reveal: they teach how to use what has been revealed. Mehiel holds the eighth and last place in that choir, the one that closes it.
