The origin of the name Harael

Harael is the 59th sacred name of the Shem HaMephorash — the 72 divine names drawn by kabbalists from the three verses of Exodus (XIV, 19-21). His Hebrew name הרחאל joins the trigram הרח to the divine suffix אל and translates literally as “the all-knowing God”. Tradition also calls him “the Treasures of God”, for he watches over the goods we gather without ever truly owning them: learning, records, the memory of a family. The traditional call taken from the Psalms is: “From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the LORD’s name is to be praised.” (Psalm 113, v. 3).

His place in the angelic hierarchy

Harael belongs to the choir of the Archangels — the eighth of the nine choirs, the messengers who carry knowledge from one world to another, placed under the authority of the Sephirah Hod, whose name means glory and splendour. This is the choir of knowledge in motion, never of knowledge left to sleep. His ruling archangel is Michael, prince of the heavenly host, the one who separates what lifts us from what weighs us down. His immediate neighbours in the calendar of the 72 are Nemamiah and Yeialel, from whom he takes over on January 11th before handing on to Mitzrael on the 16th.

His spiritual mission

Harael’s mission comes down to a single gesture: turning what you understand into what you build. He governs study, accounts, well-kept affairs, printing and everything that keeps a record of things. Tradition also credits him with an influence over fertility — of the womb and of the mind alike, two forms of the same abundance.

His protégés do well in trade, teaching, the sciences, and any profession built on archives and figures. They learn with an ease that surprises those around them, but their real strength shows up later: when they stop collecting and start building. That is exactly the crossing Harael accompanies.

Harael listens most closely on his annual regency days: May 18th, July 30th, October 11th, December 23rd and March 6th. During the day, he is at his most receptive between 7:20 pm and 7:40 pm, that moment when the files of the day are being closed. It is the right hour to bring him a decision rather than a worry.

How to prepare

Choose a tidy place — with him, outward order counts. Set in front of you whatever your request concerns: a book, a statement, a letter. If you can, light Mastic and Benzoin incense. You may hold an Amazonite stone in your hand to strengthen the link. Sincerity is what matters most.
