Haiaiel is the seventy-first sacred name of the Shem HaMephorash — the 72 divine names drawn by the kabbalists from three verses of Exodus (XIV, 19-21). His Hebrew name הייאל translates literally as “God, master of the universe”. Tradition also gives him the key “Scourge of God”, an expression that speaks less of anger than of dispersal: what is false does not hold in front of him. The traditional call drawn from the Psalms is: “I will greatly praise the LORD with my mouth; yea, I will praise him among the multitude” (Psalm 109:30).
Haiaiel belongs to the choir of Angels — the ninth and last, the closest to human beings, placed under the authority of the Sephirah Yesod. This is the choir that accompanies daily life, in the concrete texture of the days rather than in the heights. His ruling archangel is Gabriel, messenger of decisive announcements. Among his companions in that choir is the angel Rahel, who helps recover what has been lost.
His mission fits in one sentence: to make courage available. Haiaiel does not add any to those who already have too much; he gives it back to those who believe they have run out.
He is called on before a confrontation, a trial, a binding decision, a dreaded moment of public speaking. He also sharpens discernment — telling apart those who wish you well from those who want what is yours — and keeps away the influences that drag you into fights that are not yours.
