Rehael is the 39th sacred name of the Shem HaMephorash, the 72 divine names drawn by the kabbalists from the three verses of Exodus (XIV, 19-21). His Hebrew name רְהָעֵאל literally translates as "God who welcomes sinners". He is an angel of forgiveness and welcome, who never condemns the one who returns toward the light. The traditional calling formula taken from the Psalms is: "Hear, O Lord, and have mercy upon me; Lord, be my helper!" (Psalm 30, v.11).
Rehael belongs to the choir of the Powers, the angels who maintain the balance of the world and repel the forces of discord, placed under the authority of the Sephirah Gevurah, that of rigour and inner strength. Their mission is to restore justice and right order within hearts. His ruling archangel is Camael, the archangel of courage, protection and divine justice.
Rehael's mission is to restore damaged bonds: between parents and children, between siblings, between oneself and one's past. He turns resentment into understanding and guilt into an impulse toward healing.
